Shaping the Future: Psychology in Education

Saturday, October 18, 2014 - 9:00am to 3:20pm
Iacocca Hall, Governor's Suite/Wood Dining Hall
The School Psychology Department will be hosting an event titled “Shaping the Future: Psychology in Education.”

The purpose of this event is to increase the awareness of career opportunities in the intersection of psychology and education among undergraduate students from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. Given the increasingly diverse population of children in the United States, it is imperative that we increase the number of psychologists from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds working to support the academic success of all children.

The event will begin with a keynote speech given by Dr. Howard Stevenson, professor and renowned researcher from the Graduate School of Education at the University of Pennsylvania.  Next, a panel of psychologists will share their experiences working to improve the educational outcomes of students from racial and ethnic minority backgrounds in a variety of settings including academia, hospitals, schools, and community organizations.  In addition, participants will have the opportunity to gain a foundational understanding of the graduate school process from current Lehigh school psychology students.
