Free Refills in Diversity: The Meaning of Equity in 21st Century Education

Wednesday, May 4, 2016 - 9:00am to 11:30am
Iacocca Hall, Wood Dining Hall

Dr. James Peterson, director of Africana Studies and Associate Professor of English at Lehigh University and a Media Contributor, explores how the language of diversity, inclusion and equity are often co-opted and obscured by institutions even when these institutions have “good” intentions. The shifting meanings of certain terms and the expansive nature of educational discourses on equality too often fall into this trap. This talk attempts to provide some insights on how to re-engage the conceptual promise of our most important ideas about education and equality.  http://www.drjamespeterson.com  Registration for non-Study Council members is $65 per person.
